Capture Black Kudu

Our wildlife volunteers headed of the Kalahari to study a family of rare, Black Kudu.

Was this elusive animal a rare mutation?

A group of the extremely rare black Kudu were dareted and captured to obtain skin and blood samples. Scientists would analyse skin and blood to determine if this was a mutation. Join Mabulani Wildlife Volunteers on similar adventures where rare African wild animals are captured and wildlife studied for research purposes.

This Black Kudu Bull was captured to obtain blood samples. Young Kudu Calf This calf was bred by black Kudu parents. Close up of skin color This photo shows the skin color up close. Female Black Kudu Captured Mabulani Wildlife volunteers gathered evidence to support the theory that these animals are a colour mutation of the well know Kudu. Skin samples were taken for histopathological tests to determine if black pigment is present.  Blood samples were taken for DNA tests.  As a control, the ordinary Kudus were also sampled.
